Home County of the School
The Ascension School of Healing Arts sits in Ferndale, inside Oakland County, so students from across the county can reach classes in person or join many of them live online. Pontiac has served as the county seat since 1820. The county was founded in 1819 under Territorial Governor Lewis Cass and organized out of Macomb County the following year.
Lakes, Woodward and Cranbrook
With 387 lakes inside its borders, the county offers plenty of quiet water for a walking meditation after class. Woodward Avenue runs north through the county, and on the third Saturday of August it draws the largest one-day automotive event on earth.
In Bloomfield Hills, the Cranbrook Educational Community, designed with Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen, became a National Historic Landmark in 1989. Students from every corner of the county can study Reiki, intuitive development and self-healing with Donna Lakes, who has been teaching since 1999.
