Wayne County is Michigan's most populous county, with 1,793,561 residents at the 2020 census. Students from Detroit, Dearborn, Hamtramck and the Downriver communities can attend Ascension School of Healing Arts classes in Ferndale, in Oakland County, or join many classes live online.
Established in 1796 and named for Revolutionary War general Anthony Wayne, the county once stretched across most of what is now Michigan.
Where the Modern Road Began
Detroit, the county seat, was founded on July 24, 1701 on the river strait that gave the city its French name. The county road commission later poured the nation's first mile of concrete rural highway and introduced the painted center line.
Today Wayne County students practice Reiki, intuitive development and self-healing with Donna Lakes, who has been teaching since 1999, in person or from home.
